Olmert insists that the Israeli embargo of Gaza will not turn into a
humanitarian crisis. What, pray, does he think it is
now?
“But,”
Olmert warned,
“there is no justification for demanding we allow residents of Gaza to
live normal lives while shells and rockets are fired from their streets
and courtyards at Sderot and other communities in the south.” Does
Olmert seriously expect the world to believe that every single one of
the 1.5 million Palestinians residing in Gaza are militants firing
Qassam rockets?
There are two things I want: a moral Western leader (dream on), and a
piece of the Palestinian wall (now, that might be possible).
Ich bin ein Palestiner! Where is the US leader insisting: Mr. Olmert,
tear down this wall? Where is the religious leader demanding:
Let my people go!
Anyway, now that there is a vibrant free market in between Gaza and Egypt, I want a piece of the action!
My investment in the US dollar has become Merde de singe (trans.:
leavings of primate. French always sounds so refined.). It’s too late
to snag part of
the Berlin Wall. So… I want several chunks of that wall between Gaza and Egypt! I’m investing in history.
I seek fragments suitable for framing. You know, something eye-catching with genuine graffiti, preferably Arabic.
As a symbol of mankind’s cry of freedom, the chunk of the Palestinian
Wall will be prominently displayed in the lobby of Casa de los Chartier
to impress visitors and to stimulate debates the victorious outcome of
which I am confident.
I am accepting offers from residents of Gaza. No others need apply.
This may be the best way I can help those victims of the Israeli Siege.
Aside from the framed chunk to hang over my mantle, the other chunks
will be sold on eBay. Proceeds of the sales will be donated to
ICAHD.
One return on my investment? A place of honor on the Transportation Security Administration’s No Fly List!
Heaven forefend that this Christian should offer charity to the
oppressed Muslims! Sorry, Ehud, I don’t buy into imprisoning an entire
country. No wonder they blew up seven miles of oppression’s
most heinous symbol.
So how much more of
The Wall is likely to be blown up?
Israel has been working feverishly on
over six hundred miles
of serpentine walls and fences to protect a border about three hundred
and seventy miles long in the West Bank. Yeah… I don’t get the math
either. Do you suppose a couple holes here and there might not appear
in the middle of the night? Can’t have that. Without The Wall,
Palestinian farmers might be able to get to their own crops!
Palestinian workers might be able to get to their jobs and infirm
Palestinians might make it to the hospital.
Well, never fear. The Israeli IDF will put the kibosh on that sort of radical activity. Will the Israelis use
cluster bombs on the Palestinians just as
they did on the Lebanese? The job of
ethnic cleansing is never done.
The fact is, Israel has ostrich egg all over its face.
Laying siege to an entire population is not the done thing. Has it occurred to the Israeli deciders that Gaza may be a modern era
Masada? Or was that what they were hoping for?
Waging war on an entire population for the criminal acts of a few just isn’t cricket, Ehud.
The big questions are: will the West Bank Palestinians follow the lead
of their brothers in Gaza and start blowing holes in The Wall
imprisoning them?
If so, what will Israel do in retaliation?
Is there a leader who will stand up against this futile cycle of revenge?
Or, will the world be content to
continue in silence while the
siege of Palestine grinds on?
